Audiobook Tag

I saw this Tag over on Jessica C Writes and as someone who loves an audiobook I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to answer these questions. Check out her responses as well!

Audiobooks have been something that has been in and out of my life. When I was young I was introduced to the Harry Potter books on audio on family trips where we would all sit in the car and enjoy the wonderful world of Harry Potter. I also had experiences with them during school when we would have ‘listening post’, I know I’ really showing my age!

It wasn’t until 3(ish) years ago that I got into listening to them on a more daily basis, although I have been re experiencing Harry Potter since that first day.

So I couldn’t just pick one.

I absolutely love the Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman, listening to them on audio just gives them a whole other element! The Story is absolutely incredible and the cast does an amazing job!

‘Red Queen’ by Victoria Aveyard is one I picked up after finishing another book during my O.W.L.S readathon. I think the audio version really enhanced the book. I know I wouldn’t of been as engaged if I was physically reading this one.

‘The Mark of Athena’ by Rick Riordan is so far the only Rick Riordan book I have listened to and I really enjoyed the narrator. I really think I want to listen to the audiobooks when I get around to rereading this series.

Finally, this list would not be complete without ‘Harry Potter’. I absolutely love this series and Stephen Fry’s Narration of them are utterly incredible. I genuinely feel like I am transported whenever I listen to the series.

Everyone of these are my favourites!

That I can ‘t really take notes.

I’ve tried taking notes on my phone but its not the same, by the time you pause the book and then write the notes I’ve found that I’ve forgotten what I wanted to note down in the first place.

Also sometimes I just don’t vibe with the narrators and then I don’t enjoy listening to the story.

It depends on the book. I find books with a full cast can be more immersive than physically reading but then sometimes I feel as though you need to read a book to get the experience. But it depends on the book and the reader.

I listen at all different times. Most of the time it will be when I’m in transit, either in the car or on the train or walking to or from work.

I also listen when I am doing things around the house like cooking and cleaning. Most of the time I listen on headphones but when its a book I’m listening to with my partner we put it on the speaker to listen together.

I prefer full cast or narrated by the author. I mostly listen to fantasy, young adult and autobiographies, although contemporary is starting to play a bigger part in what I’m listening too.

Ok, so I know that’s a lot but, ‘The Illuminae Files’ has a full cast and is an absolutely amazing listen. I was genuinely crying while walking down the street when I was listening.

‘Yes Please’ By Amy Poehler is narrated by the author herself and is an intriguing glimpse into her life.

Norse Mythology’ By Neil Gaiman is another story narrated by the author and not only is Neil Gaiman an exceptional author but an amazing narrator.

The entire Harry Potter series narrated by Stephen Fry is utterly incredible. It an a completely immersive series that I revisit often.

‘Mythos’ By Stephen Fry is an exceptional examination of Greek Mythology that is made ever more interesting by his narration of it.

Lastly, ‘The Hobbit’ By J.R.R. Tolkien. What an immersive audiobook. It includes singing, has an incredible narrator and really takes the reader to Middle Earth.

What are some of your audiobook recommendations?

The Harry Potter Book Tag

I saw this post on Jenna’s blog bookmark your thoughts, and being a Harry Potter fan I wanted to give it a go!

I really have a soft spot for ‘harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone’ I always seem to gravitate towards this one. I feel as though this is where the magic begins so this is where I feel like I can experience it over and over again.

The final movie, with the epic conclusion is one I always enjoy rewatching

I don’t know what it is about ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ but there is something about it. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it however it is not my favourite book.

One hundred percent when Dumbledore and Dobby die, I was a hot mess!

Luna, Luna, Luna! She is absolutely my favourite. She is so quirky and really sees whats going on.

I took this Quiz on Pottermore and I got a St. Bernard, which is fine with me because I love doggos!

I think I would choose the invisibility cloak. Sometimes you just need to sneak into a library!

Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

We are half way through another year and can I just say Umm… WHAT?! How is it already halfway through June! Being this time of the year again I figured I would just freak myself out a little more about all that I have to read this year!

I have to say that ‘Keeper of Lost Cities’ By Shannon Messenger has been my favourite read of the year so far. Its whimsical and engaging and really takes the reader on an adventure.

‘Crown of Midnight’ By Sarah J. Maas, the sequel to ‘Throne of Glass’ is one of the best sequels I’ve read so far this year. The story really began to take off into the direction the other 5 books were going to be taking and honestly it was so good!

I am so excited to read ‘Aurora Rising’ By Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff! I absolutely loved the ‘Illuminae Files’ which was written my the same authors that I know I am going to love ‘Aurora Rising’. I just need to get to this.

I read ‘Roar’ By Cora Carmack two years ago and I have been anticipating this book ever since. I cannot wait to see where this series (I hope its a series) is going to go!

I recently read ‘Sky in the Deep’ By Adrienne Young. I definitely wasn’t bad, but I feel as though it could have been better. I was excited by the concept of vikings and battles and a badass female warrior but was definitely let down.

‘Fence: Volume 1’ By C.S. Pacat was one of my first explorations of graphic novels and I really enjoyed it. I’m now up to date on the volumes and cannot wait until the next is released!

Shannon Messenger 100%, I’ve read 3 book in the ‘Keeper of Lost Cities’ series and I am more than keen to continue!

I might be the only person but Chaol from the ‘Throne of Glass’ series is definitely my new fictional crush.

Celaena Sardothien is for sure one of the most badass characters I have read about so far and I absolutely love her perspective when reading the Throne of Glass series.

I don’t think I’ve actually read anything that has made me cry this year, but there is still time!

I genuinely laughed so much when I was reading ‘The Greatest Love Story Ever Told’ By Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally. It is such a funny read and made me feel very happy. Would highly recommend the Audiobook.

I want to say ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ By Kevin Kwan. I’m still in the process of reading the book but I watched this movie earlier in the year and really enjoyed it.

That is a genuinely tough question to answer, I love the covers of nearly all the books I’ve picked up this year but here is a few.

The Book Interview Tag

I was tagged by the wonderful Destiny at Howling Libraries to do this tag and I couldn’t be more excited!

Fantasy; Science Fiction and Adventure

Rick Riordan and John August

Sarah J. Maas, J.K. Rowling and Seanan McGuire

Absolutely love these books and they are ones I will always reread!

‘Artemis’ By Andy Weir

I definitely didn’t find it as easy to read as ‘The martian’ but I still really enjoyed it.

I don’t want to be that person… but I love a good cover. I’ll still read a book regardless of a cover, but I love a good cover. When it comes to the writing I love a book that really immerses me in the world and had great world building.

I generally prefer to collect the hardcover editions of books. But aside from that I would only say the Harry Potter series is one I actually collect.

It depends on the situation.
For day to day I always carry a physical book – hardcover usually that I read when I’m on the train.
I like audiobooks – when they have a good narrator- for when I’m going for a walk, doing something around the house or even walking from the train to work and vice versa.
eBooks is a new one for me, but after ending up with 2.5kg of books on my last international trip I’ve been converted specifically for travel! It’s so much easier.

I used to keep them, but I’m being more brutal now and getting rid of anything I didn’t enjoy.

That’s a tough question to answer. I’d love to say someone badass, but that’s just not me. If I had to choose I’d say someone like Bella from ‘Twilight’ or Lara Jean from ‘To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before’.

The Book Addiction Tag

usually a couple of days. I always read during the week but not as much on weekends.

at least one. I am always reading a physical book. I save most of my eBooks for travel.

Not all of them, but definitely most of them.

30 minutes to an hour. Depends on the day and who I’m with. Also depends on if I’m looking for something specific or just browsing.

Maybe 30 minutes or so depending on the day

On my commute to work, so pretty high on the list but I still have to get ready for work and eat first.

maybe 250? I actually have no idea. Once I’ve moved and I re do my book shelves I’m definitely going to count them.

not to much, but probably to the people I’m talking too its too much.

700 pages at the moment I think. Once I tackle ‘Kingdom of Ash’ though, it’ll be higher.

‘Kingdom of Exile’ By S.B. Nova, I couldn’t find it anywhere until finally ebay!

I would maybe say ‘The confectioner’s Guild’ By Claire Luana for this one. Its not that I didn’t enjoy it, it was just a bit hard to get through at times. I bought the sequel so you can tell I still enjoyed it.

firstly I want to read 45 books this year. I also want to decrease the gap between my read versus my unread books as well as buying less books over all.

Not really. I have gotten George to listen to a series of books which his favourite video game is based off though.

books are small adventures.

New Years Resolutions Book Tag 2019

I saw this tag in Jenniely’s blog you can check out her post here!

Being the New Year – kind of still – I decided it was a good time to complete this tag…

V.E. Schwab! I’ve really been wanting to pick up the ‘Darker Shade of Magic’ series and I really hope I can get to it this year!

I only got this book last year so kind of makes sense that I haven’t read it yet, but ‘Strange the Dreamer’ is one I want to get to in 2019.

100% ‘A Court of and Fury’ By Sarah J. Maas. I mean I want to reread the whole series but I think this is my favourite book of them all!

Rick Riordan! I’ve read the Percy Jackson Series, The Heroes of Olympus Series and the books that are out in the Trials of Apollo series. This year I really hope to get to the the Magnus Chase series.

So I didn’t really get any books for Christmas but I did purchase this book around Christmas time. I haven’t heard to much about ‘Nimona’ by Noelle Stevenson but it looks really good and I can’t wait to get into it.

The Seven Realms series By Cinda Williams Chima. I’ve heard a little bit about this series and it sounded like something that I’d enjoy, so I am keen to get to it in 2019.

I am currently working my way through this series which I started at the end of last year. I’ve ended up finishing ‘Throne of Glass’ and ‘Assassin’s Blade’ and am currently reading ‘Crown of Midnight’. So excited to hopefully finish this series in 2019.

I do set reading goals. For 2019 I want to try and read 45 books!

In 2019 I want to try and buy less books as well as decreasing the gap between my read and unread books.

I tag anyone and everyone who wants to participate in this tag!

The Sibling Book Tag

I don’t remember where I saw this Tag but if you’ve been following for a while you know I love a good Tag! So why not complete one I’ve had sitting around for a while!

I absolutely adore this book! I am genuinely sad that there isn’t a sequel but thats because I’m selfish and I love the world and the writing style.

The story is wrapped up really well and the characters have depth, considering its such a small book, that was unexpected.

But I will always love this standalone.

I’m going to be the most predictable person ever and say ‘Harry Potter’. This is probably one of my all time favourite series that I reread – and by reread I mean listen to because Stephen Fry is the best narrator ever – constantly!

‘A Court of Mist and Fury’ By Sarah J. Maas.

I really liked the first book, but I feel like shit got real in the second book and i just couldn’t stop reading!

Ok, I don’t know what this question means so I’m going to say the last book you read and that was ‘Assassin’s Blade’ By Sarah J. Maas.

‘The Confectioner’s Guild’ By Claire Luana.

I don’t know why, but this book took me a month to finish. Definitely for reasons not based on the book (like being the end of the school year).

At this stage I haven’t really picked up any Duologies that come to mind. I am excited to get to the ‘Strange the Dreamer‘ Duology as well as ‘The Last Namsara’ and the ‘Six of Crows‘ Duology.

‘The Woman in White’By Wilkie Collins. This was one I had to read in year 11 English Literature Class. I don’t know if the thing that annoyed me was the book itself or my teachers rants about the themes. Either way, I will never forget reading that book, even 11 years later…

I Tag everyone and anyone! What was the most recent read that you absolutely loved?

The 7 Deadly Sins Tag

Ok, so I wasn’t tagged – but when am I ever – but I love the questions from the tag after reading Book Tales By Me‘s post, and well, I’m just going to do it anyway.

What is the most expensive book you own? What is the least expensive book you own?

‘The Gray Wolf Throne’ By Cinda Williams Chima… This book was so hard to find! I genuinely paid the most ive ever paid for a book ever for this one! Worth it though!

What book or books have you shamelessly devoured many times?

Harry Potter is honestly one of my favourite series of all time. I am in love with the audio books and I listen to them constantly.

What book or series have you neglected out of sheer laziness?

IMG_2658 2

100% the ‘Throne of Glass’ Series by Sarah J. Maas. I really love Sarah J. Maas’s writing, but it’s such a huge series that I just haven’t picked it up yet.

What book or books do you bring up when you want to sound like an intellectual?

I honestly believe that there are so many types of intellect and that everyone is different. I don’t really bring up many books aside from when I am talking to my partner or some close friends.

What attributes do you find most attractive in your characters?

Hmm… It depends on the book. But I do love humor in my characters as well as a bit of determination.

What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

I’d say Sarah J. Maas. I mean I love her books but they are so freaking long. Also J.K. Rowling, I mean I love harry potter but why did so many need to die! (Honestly I’m still not over it!

I tag everyone and anyone who wants to complete this tag!
