Synopsis:
Look I didn’t want to be a half-blood. I never asked to be the son of a Greek God.
I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing baseball, skateboarding. The usual. Until I accidentally vaporised my maths teacher. Now I spend my time battling monsters and generally trying to stay alive.
This is the one where Zeus, god of the sky, thinks I’ve stolen his lightning bolt – and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea.

My Thoughts:

The way the story is told though Percy (our protagonist) perspective, is one of my favourite ways to read a story. We get to follow along as Percy discovers himself and where he really belongs. I thoroughly enjoyed reading along as Percy discovers his half-blood status and learns how Greek mythology is woven seamlessly into western civilisation.

Throughout the story we meet characters who become an integral part of Percy’s story and his survival. We meet Chiron early on who becomes a mentor to Percy as well as Grover, Percy’s best friend and Annabeth Chase a camper who begins the book disliking Percy based solely on his parentage.

The story quickly picks up pace as Percy is attacked by a monster in his day to day life, leading his mother to take him to the only place he will be safe, a special camp for half bloods.

From this point the story snowballs and events are discovered along with different gods of the Greek mythos.

As a huge fan of Greek mythology, I loved this book, I genuinely could not put it down!

I was so interested in the plot and what was going to happen next in the story that i managed to finish the book in 4 days – during the end of term- which is an incredible feat for me!

Rick Riordan’s writing is amazing and showcases his passion for mythology as well as the thorough research that obviously went into the story. I’m already onto the next one and excited for the rest of the series to come.

Its official!!

After getting back into reading during 2017, I have decided to challenge myself even further. For 2018 I am going to undertake my FIRST EVER reading challenge.

The A to Z reading challenge is being hosted by GingerMomReads. If Anyone is interested in joining in the challenge head over to their page for more information.

Throughout the year I will be coming back to this post to update My Reading Alphabet with the books i have completed, each of which will have a review post if you would like any more information about the books i have read.

This is definitely a huge undertaking for myself, but 2018 is going to be the year of #gettingmyshittogether which includes challenging myself.

So the point of this challenge is to read a book with a title that begins with each letter of the alphabet throughout 2018 (important note: ‘The’ doesn’t count – thank goodness)
