When Thor’s evil brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), gains access to the unlimited power of the energy cube called the Tesseract, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), director of S.H.I.E.L.D., initiates a superhero recruitment effort to defeat the unprecedented threat to Earth. Joining Fury’s “dream team” are Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

Loki: I’m not overly fond of what follows

Captain America: There’s only one god ma’am and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that

Thor: You listen well brother
*Ironman flies past and grabs Thor*
Loki: I’m listening

Tony Stark: Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?

Thor: It matters not metal man

Tony Stark: ahh yeah, no, bad call he loves his hammer

Bruce Banner: *referring to Loki* He really grows on you doesn’t he?

Bruce Banner: That guys brain is a bag full of cats, you can smell crazy on him
Thor: Take care how you speak of him, he may be beyond reason but he is still my brother
Natasha Romanof: He killed 80 people in 2 days
Thor: He is adopted

Tony Stark: That Man’s playing Galaga, thought we wouldn’t notice… and we didn’t

Tony Stark: * To Bruce Banner* And I’m also a fan of how you turn into a big green rage monster

Captain America: I do!… I understood that reference

*Tony Stark pokes Bruce Banner in an attempt to make the Hulk come out*
Captain America: Hey… Are you nuts?
Tony Stark: Juries still out

Bruce Banner: ‘A warm light for all man kind’, Loki’s jab at Fury, I think that was meant for you
*Tony offers Bruce blueberries*

Tony Stark: I’m sorry Nick, what were you lying?

Nick Fury: *To Thor* Excuse me?! Did we come to your planet and blow things up?

Captain America: It seems to run on some kind of electricity
Tony Stark: Well, you’re not wrong

Pilot: Target engaged
*Hulk jumps at ships*
Pilot: Target angry, target angry!

Agent Coulson: You’re going to lose
Loki: Am I?
Agent Coulson: It’s Inevitable, you lack conviction

*fires weapon at Loki*
Agent Coulson: So that’s what it does

Agent Coulson: I’m clocked out here
Nick Fury: Not an option
Agent Coulson: It’s ok Boss, this was never going to work unless they had something to…

Nick Fury: There was an idea, Stark knows this, called The Avenger’s Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people to see if they could come to be more

Nick Fury: We’ll its an old fashioned notion

Building Janitor: Right through the ceiling. Big and green and buck ass nude

Building Janitor: You an Alien?

Tony Stark: Coz if we can’t protect the Earth we will damn well avenge it

Tony Stark: And there’s one other person you pissed off… his name was Phil

Tony Stark: What?! Did you stop for drive thorough?

Tony Stark: Better clench up Legolas

Hawkeye: Well Thor is taking on a squadron down on sixth
Tony Stark: and he didn’t invite me?

Nick Fury: I recognise that The Council has made a decision but given that its a stupid ass decision, I’ve elected to ignore it

Bruce Banner: *to Loki* Pewny God

Tony Stark: *waking up from being unconscious* What the hell! What just happened?! Please tell me nobody kissed me!

Tony Stark: Alright YAY, alright guys, Good job. Let’s not come in tomorrow. Let’s take a fay

Thor: We’re not finished yet
Tony Stark: And then Shawarma after?

At the beginning does ‘a human world’ imply that there are other human worlds?

Maria Hill is a total Badass!

Love coulson just chilling on the phone the whole timeNatasha beats up the Russians

Cap must have some serious PTSD

I love that Phil and Pepper are friends but low key sad there was no scene with her reaction to his death

Maria just casually checking out Cap

What an intro for Thor

‘I watched you toss me into an abyss’ – umm pretty sure you let go Loki

I love that Tony wants Banner to be all Banner, Hulk and all

Honestly Coulson…. no, I can’t

I love that Hulk just punches Thor in Grand Central Station

Thor Rewatch

As the son of Odin (Anthony Hopkins), king of the Norse gods, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will soon inherit the throne of Asgard from his aging father. However, on the day that he is to be crowned, Thor reacts with brutality when the gods’ enemies, the Frost Giants, enter the palace in violation of their treaty. As punishment, Odin banishes Thor to Earth. While Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor’s brother, plots mischief in Asgard, Thor, now stripped of his powers, faces his greatest threat.

Favourite Quotes

Darcy: I’m not dying for 6 collage credits

Thor: Another *smashes mug*

Darcy: Mewmew… What’s mewmew?

Thor: *walks into Pet Palace* I need a horse

Thor: Your big, fought bigger

SHIELD Agent: Is that one of Starks?
Coulson: I don’t know, that guy doesn’t tell me anything.

At the beginning of the movie I really enjoyed the explanation into Norse myth. I didn’t love that it didn’t really align with the myth of how Odin lost his eye.

It kind of makes sense that Loki went of his rocker

Absolutely loved the introduction of Hawkeye. I really need a Hawkeye movie.

Straight up, Heimdall is a badass.

I actually laughed so hard when Thor’s friends arrived and knocked on the glass.

Marvel Comics presents the new Ms. Marvel, the groundbreaking heroine that has become an international sensation!

Kamala Khan is an ordinary girl from Jersey City — until she’s suddenly empowered with extraordinary gifts. But who truly is the new Ms. Marvel? Teenager? Muslim? Inhuman? Find out as she takes the Marvel Universe by storm! When Kamala discovers the dangers of her newfound powers, she unlocks a secret behind them, as well. Is Kamala ready to wield these immense new gifts? Or will the weight of the legacy before her be too much to bear? Kamala has no idea, either. But she’s comin’ for you, Jersey!

Ms. Marvel: Volume 1 – No Normal was another read for the N.E.W.T.S readathon, this time fulfilling the prompt for an Exceeds Expectations in Charms which was to read a comic or graphic novel.

In Ms. Marvel we follow Kamala as she struggles with her with balancing her faith, family expectations and what she wants to experience in her life. This leads to Kamala gaining new gifts and adding another thing to the balancing act – how to be Ms. Marvel and keep her identity secret.

As the first in a graphic novel series we really get into her backstory and why she has become who she is and what she will do with these abilities. I really am someone who loves an origin story.

I loved the overall diversity of the characters we met in this first instalment and that there was a glimpse at different cultures and how they are interacting within the world.

I cannot wait for the next instalment in the Ms. Marvel series.

June 2019 Book Haul

This book buying machine has really settled down in the last couple of months and honestly my bank account is grateful for it.

Since I am going away I wanted to pick up a couple of paperbacks to take with me – fun fact I mostly own hard covers because thats what I prefer. I also picked up a couple of graphic novels!

For my trip I ended up buying 3 books. Reasoning… ‘Impostors’ By Scott Westerfeld is one that I’ve wanted to read for ages but just haven’t picked up, so what a better time to do it, also it looks like a pretty easy read which is great for a holiday.

“Frey and Rafi are inseparable . . . but very few people have ever seen them together. This is because Frey is Rafi’s double, raised in the shadows of their rich father’s fortress. While Rafi has been taught to charm, Frey has been taught to kill. Frey only exists to protect her sister. There is no other part of her life. Frey has never been out in the world on her own – until her father sends her in Rafi’s place to act as collateral for a dangerous deal. Everyone thinks she’s her sister – but Col, the son of a rival leader, is starting to get close enough to tell the difference. As the stakes grow higher and higher, Frey must decide whether she can trust him – or anyone in her life.”

‘Girls with Sharp Sticks’ by Suzanne Young is one that I hadn’t really heard much about but after reading the synopsis I think its one I’ll really enjoy.

“‘Girls with Sharp Sticks’ by Suzanne Young is one that I hadn’t really heard much about but after reading the synopsis I think its one I’ll really enjoy. The Girls of Innovations Academy are beautiful and well-behaved—it says so on their report cards. Under the watchful gaze of their Guardians, the all-girl boarding school offers an array of studies and activities, from “Growing a Beautiful and Prosperous Garden” to “Art Appreciation” and “Interior Design.” The girls learn to be the best society has to offer. Absent is the difficult math coursework, or the unnecessary sciences or current events. They are obedient young ladies, free from arrogance or defiance. Until Mena starts to realize that their carefully controlled existence may not be quite as it appears. As Mena and her friends begin to uncover the dark secrets of what’s actually happening there—and who they really are—the girls of Innovations will find out what they are truly capable of. Because some of the prettiest flowers have the sharpest thorns.”

The final book I picked up was ‘Emergency Contact’ By Mary H.K. Choi. This one I have heard a lot about and it is very mixed. Some people really enjoyed it and others really didn’t like it. I’m hoping I’m the former and I really like it. I definitely gave me beach/pool read vibes which is exactly what I was going for.

“For Penny Lee high school was a total nonevent. Her friends were okay, her grades were fine, and while she somehow managed to land a boyfriend, he doesn’t actually know anything about her. When Penny heads to college in Austin, Texas, to learn how to become a writer, it’s seventy-nine miles and a zillion light years away from everything she can’t wait to leave behind. Sam’s stuck. Literally, figuratively, emotionally, financially. He works at a café and sleeps there too, on a mattress on the floor of an empty storage room upstairs. He knows that this is the god-awful chapter of his life that will serve as inspiration for when he’s a famous movie director but right this second the seventeen bucks in his checking account and his dying laptop are really testing him.  When Sam and Penny cross paths it’s less meet-cute and more a collision of unbearable awkwardness. Still, they swap numbers and stay in touch—via text—and soon become digitally inseparable, sharing their deepest anxieties and secret dreams without the humiliating weirdness of having to see each other.

I also picked up 3 graphic novels earlier this month, which I am keen to get to when I get back.

First I picked up ‘Ms. Marvel: Volume 1: No Normal’ By G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona as well as ‘ Captain America: Winter in America’ and ‘Thor: God of Thunder Reborn’

Iron Man Rewatch

A billionaire industrialist and genius inventor, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), is conducting weapons tests overseas, but terrorists kidnap him to force him to build a devastating weapon. Instead, he builds an armoured suit and upends his captors. Returning to America, Stark refines the suit and uses it to combat crime and terrorism.

Tony: Good god, you’re a woman?! I didn’t even know, but I guess thats what we’re going for

Tony: I better not see this in your MySpace page
*solider does a peace sign*
Tony: Please, no gang signs
*solider lowers hand*
Tony: I’m kidding, throw ’em up

Christine: Can I talk to you, I just have a couple of questions
Happy to Tony: she’s cute

Yinsen: Don’t waste it. Don’t waste your life

Tony: Show me your hands
*Pepper lifts up hands*
Tony: Oh wow, very small, very petite

Pepper: Oh my god, whats happening?!
Tony: nothing, I’m just going into cardiac arrest

Tony: Hey butter fingers, what’s all this?
*AI spins to desk*
Tony: What’s all this stuff on my desk? Why is there a picture of me

Tony: Jarvis you awake?
Jarvis: For you sir, always

Tony to AI: Don’t follow me around either. I feel like I’m just going to catch on fire

Tony: Little ostentatious don’t you think
Jarvis: What was I thinking, you’re usually so discrete
Tony: You know what? Throw a little hot rod red in there
Jarvis: Yes, that should help you keep a low profile

Pepper: Oh yeah, What’s your social security number?
Tony: 5

Pepper: I would like a martini, extra dry, extra olives, like a lot of olives, I want at least 3 olives

Pepper: Oh what’s that? Is that like a little device thats going to pick the lock
*device blows up door*

*Stane’s suit flies*
Jarvis: Sir, It appears that Stane’s suit can fly

Tony: Truth is…. I am Iron Man

Why did it take so long for Pepper and Tony to get together?

How did it take them so long to work out what Tony was actually building?

I really think that meeting Ho YInsen changed Stark’s life, especially seeing as he sacrificed himself to get Stark out

How did he not die from that landing?

Did they always intend for Paul Bentley to continue as Vision?

How did no one notice that Stane was flying to Afghanistan?

Captain Marvel Rewatch

Captain Marvel is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.

Carol: I slipped
Yon-Rogg: As a result of me punching you
Carol: I was already slipping when you punched me

Atlas: You never laugh
Korath: I laugh on the inside… and I’m not laughing

Fury: You look like someones disaffected niece, lose the flannel

Carol: Your communicator? You obviously can’t be trusted

Talos: Before you go swinging your jass hands around, messing up your friends house

Talos: Ok, I can see we are all a little stressed out here

*Looking at 1980’s computer loading screen*
Carol: whats happening?
Fury: It’s loading

Talos: In orbit? What that so difficult? I mean you’re my science guy

Fury: I’ll give you 50 bucks right now if you turn into a venus fly trap

*Goose scratches Fury’s face*
Fury: Mother Flurken!

I only had one question from my rewatch of Captain Marvel

How did an AI become the Kree leader?

Wrap Up: May 2019

What a month! Everyday May is over and to be honest I’m sad to see it go! I wish that I could sustain blogging every day for 365 days a year however I have a full time job and I’m planning a wedding this year so the reality doesn’t agree with the dream.

This means that June will bring up back to regular scheduled programming with posts every other day.

Ambitious I know!

This month I ended up finishing 5 books. I don’t think its too bad, but I was definitely hoping to get through more. I finished ‘Cucumber Quest: The Ripple Kingdom’ By Gigi D.G. and ‘Queen of Shadow’ By Sarah J. Maas. I then sped though ‘Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer’ By Rick Riordan, before finishing off the month with Spider-Gwen and ‘Everblaze’ By Shannon Messenger.

Captain Amrica: The First Avenger Rewatch

It is 1941 and the world is in the throes of war. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) wants to do his part and join America’s armed forces, but the military rejects him because of his small stature. Finally, Steve gets his chance when he is accepted into an experimental program that turns him into a supersoldier called Captain America. Joining forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Captain America leads the fight against the Nazi-backed HYDRA organization.

Bucky: ‘Don’t do anything stupid til I get back’

Dr. Erskine: ‘What am I doing? You have a procedure tomorrow
Steve: Ok, tomorrow then?
Dr. Erskine: Tomorrow? I don’t have a procedure. I’ll drink it now.

Steve: B.A.R –
Phillips: I can spell

Morita: know how to use that thing?
** blows up side of building **
Morita: Ok

Stark: Write that down

Zola: What is it?
Phillips: Steak
Zola: What’s in it?
Phillips: Cow

*Peggy Kisses Steve*
Phillips: I’m not kissing you

So after watching I had a few questions. If you can answer any of them then feel free, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

How did the Tesseract end up on earth in the first place?

How did Odin not know it was missing?

How did Red Skull end up guarding the Soul Stone?

I wonder if Sebastian Stan knew he was going to be the Winter Solider/ returning to the MCU?
