Fitness: Becoming More Accountable

Fitness and a healthy lifestyle… this is something I really want to improve upon in my life but its also what I struggle with the most.

This is how I plan to stay accountable. Each day from today until June 23rd I am going to post my work out here as well as a scale for how well I thought I did when it comes to diet (I have a crazy sweet tooth and sometimes it takes over). There will be rest days and days that I go out for dinner but I overall am hoping to have more good days.

29th May: Today I definitely ate pretty well, however it was genuinely storming when I got home and since I catch the train and bus and walk, I was drenched by the time I got home!

2019 Goals

Here we are again, the start of another year filled with potential to continually improve as a person and to embrace life and everything that involves. Before we get into the goals I am setting for myself for 2019 I want to say…

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone has a wonderful New Years filled with celebration with loved ones.

Now onto the goals.

  1. Read at least 45 books So my goal last year was to read 30 books and I managed to exceed that and read a total of ____ books. After doing that I decided I wanted to increase my goal but not go to crazy.
  2. Drink 2L of water a day I know how good water is for you and the fact that we need it to survive but I don’t feel like a drink enough on an every day basis so for 2019 we are going to see how drinking more water helps improve my mood, skin and digestion.
  3. Build and follow a night routine If you’ve been a reader for a while now you may know that in 2018 I wanted to create a night routine that had less technology… that didn’t work. I just scrolled through my phone anyway. This year I want to focus on creating steps that help me wind down at night and focus on my skin, my digestion and relaxation.
  4. Buy less books I know George (who doesn’t even read these) will appreciate this goal, he gives me so much grief for how many books I buy. I mean he’s not wrong but still… So in 2019 I am going to work on buying way less books than I did in 2018.
  5. Hit my savings goal Ok so I’m not going state my savings goal on here because it seems unnecessary. But Fun: I am not very good with money. So this year I plan to change/ improve that. George and I have things we really want to accomplish in the next couple of years one of which is to get married and weddings are expensive!
  6. Take everything as it comes This is probably more of a vague goal and kind of will act as a reminder through out the year. I know 2019 will bring stresses along with the great moments and I want to remind myself not to stress over things that are out of my control. It does nothing for my already anxious mind, so a reminder won’t hurt.

Thats it! Less goals than 2018 but I think thats better. I can really focus on them and take the time to work on what I need to when it comes to achieving them!

November Goal Update

November has come and gone and with that I am faced with my 2018 goals and how I actually went towards achieving them… 

To say November was a FULL month feels a bit like an understatement. We are getting to the end of Term 4 at work and it is hectic with carols and wrapping up activities and filing galore. I also had my Engagement which took s bit of organising. So it has been bust busy busy! 

To the update… 

  1. Complete the A to Z reading Challenge                                                    This is one I will definitely not complete this year. I didn’t end up adding any books in November and I don’t think I will fill my remaining letters before the end of the year. It was a great way to get back into reading so I don’t see this as a fail per say
  2. Post at least 3 times a week.                                                                           I am really proud of sticking with this goal. It has really kept me passionate about reading and sharing my thoughts and ideas on different books and bookish things. Yay for winning at this goal.
  3. Exercise 3 days a week.                                                                                     I’ve been pretty good at exercising 3 times a week which is a plus
  4. Read 30 books in 2018.                                                                                      This is one I’ve already achieved and am just continuing to kill it.          

5. Try a new recipe each week.                                                                                   This one has been pretty much a no go in November. It has been so          hectic that I have barely been even thinking about what meals to cook. Onwards and upwards from here.
6. Practice positivity and optimism.                                                                         The start of the month went well with staying positive. As I got more and more drained though it became more difficult. Definitely one to continue working towards. 
7. Less Technology more reading before bed.                                                      I kind of worked towards this one and by kind of I mean twice this month… I finally put batteries in a book light a friend from work gave me for my birthday and used it to read before bed a couple of nights. Alas I am back to my habit of  just randomly scrolling though my phone. 
8. Focus on what I am putting in my body and focus on being gluten and dairy free.
November was actually the worst month for this. We got really lazy with what we were eating and I just ignored my intolerances and ate whatever. I definitely regretted it every time. I also felt like it was really just undoing all the exercise I was doing. Hoping for a better December. 

Overall I don’t think it was a great month for achieving goals in November. Let’s hope the last month of 2018 is a positive one. 

October Goal Update


OK… So I know its TECHNICALLY the second month of spring but not it is really beginning to feel like spring. The days are longer – bless daylight savings – and the weather is getting warmer! It really has a way of just improving your mood ten fold!

Now, onto my goals for October and how I went with achieving them….

  1. Complete the A to Z Reading Challenge
    One that I am making progress on. I finally got another letter knocked out and will get at least one more done in November. Yay for reading progress!
  2. Post at lease 3 times a week
    I have stayed really consistent with this over 2018 and I couldn’t feel prouder of that, next step is to really focus on WHAT I’m posting and then maybe move into posting even more frequently.
  3. Exercise 3 days a week
    This is one I have 100% improved on. I was struggling to get to 3 days a weeks on September but have consistently hit 3 days and then some weeks even been able to do more!
  4. read 30 book in 2018
    So I completed this goal and have upped it to 35! I’m currently sitting at 33 books with 2 books that I am currently reading so will most likely need to increase my goal before November. Screen Shot 2018-10-22 at 8.30.43 am
  5. Try a new recipe each week
    We really haven’t been good at this one, however we are starting to develop a list of meals to make because each week when we make our shopping list both of us seem to blank as to anything we can cook with what we have. So who knows maybe next month!
  6. Practise positivity and optimism
    Things have been getting super stressful in the last month and a half both and home and work, I have been actively trying to focus on the positive and not let the stress overwhelm me. Although if I’m honest there has definitely been some stress cleaning and stress organising going on.
  7. Less technology more reading before bed
    Ok so this is a goal I really do struggle with. I did do some reading last night while I ran an update on my computer, which I don’t think really counts.
  8. Focus on what I am putting in my body and work towards maintaining being gluten free and dairy free
    I’ve definitely been better with this. I am working on having heathy weeks and then letting my self chill a little on the weekends. It is definitely a more maintainable approach for me.

Overall a pretty good month! What a great way to head into the end of the year!

How are your 2018 goals going?


August Goal Update

The time has come once away to see how my goals are fairing for 2018. I’m going to be honest, I’m on struggle street at the moment with most of my goals. I don’t know if it was the gloominess of August or if I’m just being a lazy bones. But with that in mind, lets get into the goals!

  1. Complete the A to Z reading Challenge. 
    I haven’t actually added any books yet. I read both ‘The Son of Neptune’ and ‘The Mark of Athena’ however I already have ‘S’ and ‘M’ books listed. So for this month I would have to say I failed at this goal. But I will be adding a ‘H’ book in September so YAY, for that.
  2. Post at least 3 times a week
    I am still crushing this one – If I don’t say so myself- I’ve been consistent with posting 3 times a week on Harper-Grae, and I’m starting to get better at posting daily on my Harper-Grae Instagram. Win!
  3.  Exercise 3 days a week. 
    I have definitely been better at this. I’ve definitely been able to reach 3 days per week, which is a win, but lately I have been aiming for 5 days a week, allowing for 2 rest days, usually Fridays and one other day. Still working on that!
  4. Read 30 books in 2018
    This has been a great goal to have, I’ve really been able to see my progress.

  5. Try a new recipe each week
    We’ve actually been so busy this month that we haven’t really had a chance to try any new recipes! This one is a fail for this month, but one that I am going to put a conscious effort into in September.
  6. Practice positivity and optimism.
    This has been a constant struggle through out 2018. Honestly, I haven’t wanted to be negative however a feel increasingly stressed out and anxious and it just becomes tremendously more difficult to stay in a positive frame of mind. I know excuses, I am going to put my best foot forward in September and have this as my main goal for the month! Fail for August though.
  7. Less Technology and more reading before bed. 
    Honestly I feel like this goal is pointless at this point in the year, I’ve failed to achieve any progress this year. I have the best intentions but I always turn the light off before I am ready to sleep so automatically gravitate to my phone. Lets see if I can make any progress, at all, in September. Fail.
  8. Focus on what I am putting in my body and work towards positively maintaining being Gluten and Dairy Free. 
    This is a new goal and its one that I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with. My main focus is the Gluten Free aspect, as that is what I have the strongest intolerance too. However I have at a few moments of weakness where I’ve ended up snacking on peanut M & M’s and ever single time I feel sick, but every single time I do it again.
    Lets hope for a more positive change in September.

How are your 2018 Goals coming along?

July Goal Update

It feels like its been ages since I posted a goal update – read accountable I know – but keeping to my goal of staying positive, better late than never right? So today is the day that I actually take account for how poorly I’ve done on my goals of late, however I am adding/editing some goals to align with me aims.

Lets dive in…

  1. Complete the A-Z reading Challenge 
    In July I finished ‘The Lost Hero’ by Rick Riordan. Which completed my ‘L’ book for the challenge. I did also read ‘Mythos’ by Stephen Fry, but I already have an ‘M’ book so I can’t add it.
    Chalking it up as a win!
  2. Post at least 3 times a week
    I managed to still post while I was in Greece. It wasn’t 3 times a week, but considering I was on holiday, thats ok. As soon as I got back I was in the swing of things and started posting in my usual schedule.
    Another win. 
  3. Exercise 3 days a week
    I’ve book pretty bad at this… I came back from Greece with a new goal and did not start off strong. So I am changing this goal to: Exercise 5 days a week. I want to really focus on my fitness and health, since in Greece I ate a lot of things that I definitely can’t.
    Fail this month.
  4. Read 30 books in 2018
    This has definitely a great goal, its really been keeping me motivated.

  5. Try a new recipe each week
    I tried a new recipe this week, although considering we were in Greece we did try a lot of different food. I think we will need to work on this one a little more.

  6. Practise positivity and optimism
    This is a goal I am definitely finding tricky. I was positive and optimistic in Greece, but I feel like everyone would feel more positive soaking up the rays on a beautiful island! Now that I’m back home and in the depths of winter its been hard to stay positive. I think I need to set myself a daily reminder to make this goal more achievable.
    Fail for now. 
  7. Less technology and more reading before bed
    This is a goal that I am not even trying to achieve honestly, I don’t why its so hard for me to put down my phone and read at night!
  8. NEW GOAL: So a little fun fact – I got engaged recently (If anyone wants a post about how it all went down/ my experiences so far with planning a wedding let me know) 
    So I decided for the purpose of getting my health back on track and looking and feeling my best while I’m trying to organise an important event in my life. My goal is to focus on what I am putting in my body and work towards positively changing my eating habits to maintain being Gluten and dairy free.  

Of the 7 goals I was working on in July I achieved 3 and failed towards 4. Lets hope I can make more progress in August.

Along with books, I have been really getting into changing my lifestyle. Little fun fact I am both gluten and dairy intolerant -yay- as well as having chronic gastritis.
