2019 Goal Review

2020 is roaring away and with that came some new goals, yet I had not forgotten about my 2019 goals that I worked on throughout the year. Looking back I think its important to look at what worked and what did not.

My first goal for 2019 was to read 45 books. I set this goal based on reading just under 45 book in 2018. My reading picked up significantly though -Yay! – and I ended up surpassing this goal and reading a total of 96 books.

I really wanted to focus ion hydration throughout the year as previously I was not very good at drinking water. I found throughout the year that while I was working I was able to drink the recommended 2L a day, as I carry a drink bottle with me all day. When I got home however or was not working I would forget to drink much at all. Even though it is not a goal for me in 2020 I do want to continue to improve on this.

Buy less books, boy I kept this one vague. I definitely purchased less books in 2019 than I did in 2018. 2018 was when I was really getting back into reading and wanted to grow my collection. Do I think I still purchased too many books… Yes. The lack of perimeters really made it easy for me to just keep buying books with minimal buying bans. I have definitely rectified this for 2020.

At the beginning of the year I set myself a savings goal. When I started 2019 I had some credit card debt I needed to pay off and a bad book buying habit. I am genuinely proud that I don’t have the credit card debt and I managed to meet the goal I set for myself. Here’s to finally getting my life together – at least a little.

my final goal revolved around following a night routine. This was one that just never stuck. The intention was to be off technology and either reading or just relaxing without a screen in front of me at night. It never really took.

Overall, the goals I set were mostly ones that were attainable and measurable – lets ignore the “buy less books” one here – I personally find this super important when setting goals as I find if they are more vague I am unable to really work towards anything. I will definitely take away things from my 2019 goals and am already using those things in achieving my 2020 goals.

How did you go with your 2019 goals?

Goal Update: February 2019

So to recap my goals for 2019 are:
1. Read 45 Books
2. Drink 2L of water each day
3. Build and follow a night routine
4. Buy less books
5. Hit my savings goal
6. Take everything as it comes

So far, this is how I am tracking with them.

  1. as of the day I am writing this my current book count sits at

I really don’t like being one book behind schedule, it really stresses me out but I am hoping to catch back up in march.

2. I am still not perfect at this, but I feel like I’ve been doing better then I did in January. I’m back into the swing of work and always have a drink bottle with me at work to make sure I stay hydrated all day.

3. I’ve been really good about washing my face every night and making sure I am moisturising or using a body oil after I shower. I’m still working on kind of ‘slowing down’ before bed. So still a work in progress but definitely doing better than i have done and that’s what matters right?

4. I can’t say I’ve been buying less books, because lets me real, I haven’t. So I’ve decided to put myself on a book buying ban for March and April and potentially May. I’m hoping this will help me to read through the books I have as well as leading into my next goal of…

5. Hitting my savings goal. I am no where near it at the moment, but we are making our last rent payment this month and will be able to save for the next 9-12 months. Hopefully I can get there by December!

6. I think I have definitely been able to attempt to put this into practice over the last month. We are moving sooner than we planned, we’ve booked in the baptism and we are trying to finalise our trip on June. I do still need to work on stress being my initial reaction to things and stating that ‘I’m stressed’ as a response. Working through the things I can control and handing on the things I can’t.

Overall I think its been a pretty good month. I’ve also been working out more and started going back to yoga classes which I really enjoy. I do need to kick the Summer Roll addiction I’ve recently acquired, but come on, who doesn’t love a Summer Roll?

How have you gone with your goals in February?

2019 Goals

Here we are again, the start of another year filled with potential to continually improve as a person and to embrace life and everything that involves. Before we get into the goals I am setting for myself for 2019 I want to say…

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone has a wonderful New Years filled with celebration with loved ones.

Now onto the goals.

  1. Read at least 45 books So my goal last year was to read 30 books and I managed to exceed that and read a total of ____ books. After doing that I decided I wanted to increase my goal but not go to crazy.
  2. Drink 2L of water a day I know how good water is for you and the fact that we need it to survive but I don’t feel like a drink enough on an every day basis so for 2019 we are going to see how drinking more water helps improve my mood, skin and digestion.
  3. Build and follow a night routine If you’ve been a reader for a while now you may know that in 2018 I wanted to create a night routine that had less technology… that didn’t work. I just scrolled through my phone anyway. This year I want to focus on creating steps that help me wind down at night and focus on my skin, my digestion and relaxation.
  4. Buy less books I know George (who doesn’t even read these) will appreciate this goal, he gives me so much grief for how many books I buy. I mean he’s not wrong but still… So in 2019 I am going to work on buying way less books than I did in 2018.
  5. Hit my savings goal Ok so I’m not going state my savings goal on here because it seems unnecessary. But Fun: I am not very good with money. So this year I plan to change/ improve that. George and I have things we really want to accomplish in the next couple of years one of which is to get married and weddings are expensive!
  6. Take everything as it comes This is probably more of a vague goal and kind of will act as a reminder through out the year. I know 2019 will bring stresses along with the great moments and I want to remind myself not to stress over things that are out of my control. It does nothing for my already anxious mind, so a reminder won’t hurt.

Thats it! Less goals than 2018 but I think thats better. I can really focus on them and take the time to work on what I need to when it comes to achieving them!

What is a goal of yours for 2019?

September Goal Update

Here we are again, the end of another month and its time to check in with my goals for 2018.

I feel like I’ve really hit and end of year rut, probably due to being so tired, which seems understandable but still. The weather is getting nicer her in Melbourne – finally- so I feel like I can be a whole new person now!

Anyway, here’s how the goals went for September…

  1. Complete the A to Z Reading Challenge
So another month has gone by and I haven’t actually read any books that I can add to my A to Z list, mostly because I’ve already read books with the same letter. The downfall to reading series.
  2. Post at least 3 times a week.
So this one is one that I’m doing well with keeping up with. I think I missed one day last week, because to be honest I forget what day it is sometimes on school holidays. This is probably one of the goals I’ve been able to be the most consistent with!
  3. Exercise 3 days a week
To be honest this is another one I’ve been struggling with, probably because I exercise after work and I’m usually exhausted after work. I will say I’ve definitely ben doing more. I did boxing a couple of times after school with some people from work and then I convinced George to box with me – granted I’ve only managed to convince him once – so I would say PROGRESS is being made!
  4. Read 30 books in 2018
I am so excited because I have EXCEEDED this goal in September and have actually increased my reading goal to 35!
Screen Shot 2018-10-02 at 12.58.38 pm
  5. Try a new recipe each week
I don’t know if I’ve kept it up on a weekly basis but I have at least tried a few new restaurants lately which has been nice. I’m trying a new recipe the day I am writing this post – for dinner I am making Cauliflower Gnocchi – so excited to get back into it. Again the weather effects me so much that I just get so down and sloth mode in winter.
  6. Practice Positivity and Optimism
Still struggling with this in September, yikes. But I have been feeling more positive lately, which is a great start!
  7. Less Technology more reading before bed
I am a technology fiend apparently! I’ve honestly been unable to just put down my phone and read at night, which seems ridiculous. I end up in a YouTube hole just watching Survivor Challenge videos – which don’t get me wrong are absolutely amazing and I love them.
  8. Focus on what I’m putting in my body and work towards positively maintaining being gluten free and dairy free
I’ve been average at this at best, which is bad because I always feel it and then instantly regret it. Onwards and upwards though!

How have your 2018 goals been going?

August Goal Update

The time has come once away to see how my goals are fairing for 2018. I’m going to be honest, I’m on struggle street at the moment with most of my goals. I don’t know if it was the gloominess of August or if I’m just being a lazy bones. But with that in mind, lets get into the goals!

  1. Complete the A to Z reading Challenge.
I haven’t actually added any books yet. I read both ‘The Son of Neptune’ and ‘The Mark of Athena’ however I already have ‘S’ and ‘M’ books listed. So for this month I would have to say I failed at this goal. But I will be adding a ‘H’ book in September so YAY, for that.
  2. Post at least 3 times a week
I am still crushing this one – If I don’t say so myself- I’ve been consistent with posting 3 times a week on Harper-Grae, and I’m starting to get better at posting daily on my Harper-Grae Instagram. Win!
  3.  Exercise 3 days a week.
I have definitely been better at this. I’ve definitely been able to reach 3 days per week, which is a win, but lately I have been aiming for 5 days a week, allowing for 2 rest days, usually Fridays and one other day. Still working on that!
  4. Read 30 books in 2018
This has been a great goal to have, I’ve really been able to see my progress.
Screen Shot 2018-09-03 at 11.17.51 am
  5. Try a new recipe each week
We’ve actually been so busy this month that we haven’t really had a chance to try any new recipes! This one is a fail for this month, but one that I am going to put a conscious effort into in September.
  6. Practice positivity and optimism.
This has been a constant struggle through out 2018. Honestly, I haven’t wanted to be negative however a feel increasingly stressed out and anxious and it just becomes tremendously more difficult to stay in a positive frame of mind. I know excuses, I am going to put my best foot forward in September and have this as my main goal for the month! Fail for August though.
  7. Less Technology and more reading before bed.
Honestly I feel like this goal is pointless at this point in the year, I’ve failed to achieve any progress this year. I have the best intentions but I always turn the light off before I am ready to sleep so automatically gravitate to my phone. Lets see if I can make any progress, at all, in September. Fail.
  8. Focus on what I am putting in my body and work towards positively maintaining being Gluten and Dairy Free.
This is a new goal and its one that I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with. My main focus is the Gluten Free aspect, as that is what I have the strongest intolerance too. However I have at a few moments of weakness where I’ve ended up snacking on peanut M & M’s and ever single time I feel sick, but every single time I do it again.
Lets hope for a more positive change in September.

How are your 2018 Goals coming along?

July Goal Update

It feels like its been ages since I posted a goal update – read accountable I know – but keeping to my goal of staying positive, better late than never right? So today is the day that I actually take account for how poorly I’ve done on my goals of late, however I am adding/editing some goals to align with me aims.

Lets dive in…

  1. Complete the A-Z reading Challenge
In July I finished ‘The Lost Hero’ by Rick Riordan. Which completed my ‘L’ book for the challenge. I did also read ‘Mythos’ by Stephen Fry, but I already have an ‘M’ book so I can’t add it.
Chalking it up as a win!
  2. Post at least 3 times a week
I managed to still post while I was in Greece. It wasn’t 3 times a week, but considering I was on holiday, thats ok. As soon as I got back I was in the swing of things and started posting in my usual schedule.
    Another win.
  3. Exercise 3 days a week
I’ve book pretty bad at this… I came back from Greece with a new goal and did not start off strong. So I am changing this goal to: Exercise 5 days a week. I want to really focus on my fitness and health, since in Greece I ate a lot of things that I definitely can’t.
    Fail this month.
  4. Read 30 books in 2018
This has definitely a great goal, its really been keeping me motivated.
Screen Shot 2018-08-02 at 8.24.19 am
I think this will be a goal that I’ll need to update this goal and add more books!
    Definite win.
  5. Try a new recipe each week
I tried a new recipe this week, although considering we were in Greece we did try a lot of different food. I think we will need to work on this one a little more.
    bit of a fail.
  6. Practise positivity and optimism
This is a goal I am definitely finding tricky. I was positive and optimistic in Greece, but I feel like everyone would feel more positive soaking up the rays on a beautiful island! Now that I’m back home and in the depths of winter its been hard to stay positive. I think I need to set myself a daily reminder to make this goal more achievable.
    Fail for now.
  7. Less technology and more reading before bed
This is a goal that I am not even trying to achieve honestly, I don’t why its so hard for me to put down my phone and read at night!
    Fail.
  8. NEW GOAL: So a little fun fact – I got engaged recently (If anyone wants a post about how it all went down/ my experiences so far with planning a wedding let me know)
So I decided for the purpose of getting my health back on track and looking and feeling my best while I’m trying to organise an important event in my life. My goal is to focus on what I am putting in my body and work towards positively changing my eating habits to maintain being Gluten and dairy free.

Of the 7 goals I was working on in July I achieved 3 and failed towards 4. Lets hope I can make more progress in August.
