Marvel Comics presents the new Ms. Marvel, the groundbreaking heroine that has become an international sensation!

Kamala Khan is an ordinary girl from Jersey City — until she’s suddenly empowered with extraordinary gifts. But who truly is the new Ms. Marvel? Teenager? Muslim? Inhuman? Find out as she takes the Marvel Universe by storm! When Kamala discovers the dangers of her newfound powers, she unlocks a secret behind them, as well. Is Kamala ready to wield these immense new gifts? Or will the weight of the legacy before her be too much to bear? Kamala has no idea, either. But she’s comin’ for you, Jersey!

Ms. Marvel: Volume 1 – No Normal was another read for the N.E.W.T.S readathon, this time fulfilling the prompt for an Exceeds Expectations in Charms which was to read a comic or graphic novel.

In Ms. Marvel we follow Kamala as she struggles with her with balancing her faith, family expectations and what she wants to experience in her life. This leads to Kamala gaining new gifts and adding another thing to the balancing act – how to be Ms. Marvel and keep her identity secret.

As the first in a graphic novel series we really get into her backstory and why she has become who she is and what she will do with these abilities. I really am someone who loves an origin story.

I loved the overall diversity of the characters we met in this first instalment and that there was a glimpse at different cultures and how they are interacting within the world.

I cannot wait for the next instalment in the Ms. Marvel series.

Iron Man Rewatch

A billionaire industrialist and genius inventor, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), is conducting weapons tests overseas, but terrorists kidnap him to force him to build a devastating weapon. Instead, he builds an armoured suit and upends his captors. Returning to America, Stark refines the suit and uses it to combat crime and terrorism.

Tony: Good god, you’re a woman?! I didn’t even know, but I guess thats what we’re going for

Tony: I better not see this in your MySpace page
*solider does a peace sign*
Tony: Please, no gang signs
*solider lowers hand*
Tony: I’m kidding, throw ’em up

Christine: Can I talk to you, I just have a couple of questions
Happy to Tony: she’s cute

Yinsen: Don’t waste it. Don’t waste your life

Tony: Show me your hands
*Pepper lifts up hands*
Tony: Oh wow, very small, very petite

Pepper: Oh my god, whats happening?!
Tony: nothing, I’m just going into cardiac arrest

Tony: Hey butter fingers, what’s all this?
*AI spins to desk*
Tony: What’s all this stuff on my desk? Why is there a picture of me

Tony: Jarvis you awake?
Jarvis: For you sir, always

Tony to AI: Don’t follow me around either. I feel like I’m just going to catch on fire

Tony: Little ostentatious don’t you think
Jarvis: What was I thinking, you’re usually so discrete
Tony: You know what? Throw a little hot rod red in there
Jarvis: Yes, that should help you keep a low profile

Pepper: Oh yeah, What’s your social security number?
Tony: 5

Pepper: I would like a martini, extra dry, extra olives, like a lot of olives, I want at least 3 olives

Pepper: Oh what’s that? Is that like a little device thats going to pick the lock
*device blows up door*

*Stane’s suit flies*
Jarvis: Sir, It appears that Stane’s suit can fly

Tony: Truth is…. I am Iron Man

Why did it take so long for Pepper and Tony to get together?

How did it take them so long to work out what Tony was actually building?

I really think that meeting Ho YInsen changed Stark’s life, especially seeing as he sacrificed himself to get Stark out

How did he not die from that landing?

Did they always intend for Paul Bentley to continue as Vision?

How did no one notice that Stane was flying to Afghanistan?

Captain Marvel Rewatch

Captain Marvel is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.

Carol: I slipped
Yon-Rogg: As a result of me punching you
Carol: I was already slipping when you punched me

Atlas: You never laugh
Korath: I laugh on the inside… and I’m not laughing

Fury: You look like someones disaffected niece, lose the flannel

Carol: Your communicator? You obviously can’t be trusted

Talos: Before you go swinging your jass hands around, messing up your friends house

Talos: Ok, I can see we are all a little stressed out here

*Looking at 1980’s computer loading screen*
Carol: whats happening?
Fury: It’s loading

Talos: In orbit? What that so difficult? I mean you’re my science guy

Fury: I’ll give you 50 bucks right now if you turn into a venus fly trap

*Goose scratches Fury’s face*
Fury: Mother Flurken!

I only had one question from my rewatch of Captain Marvel

How did an AI become the Kree leader?

Wrap Up: May 2019

What a month! Everyday May is over and to be honest I’m sad to see it go! I wish that I could sustain blogging every day for 365 days a year however I have a full time job and I’m planning a wedding this year so the reality doesn’t agree with the dream.

This means that June will bring up back to regular scheduled programming with posts every other day.

Ambitious I know!

This month I ended up finishing 5 books. I don’t think its too bad, but I was definitely hoping to get through more. I finished ‘Cucumber Quest: The Ripple Kingdom’ By Gigi D.G. and ‘Queen of Shadow’ By Sarah J. Maas. I then sped though ‘Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer’ By Rick Riordan, before finishing off the month with Spider-Gwen and ‘Everblaze’ By Shannon Messenger.

Captain Amrica: The First Avenger Rewatch

It is 1941 and the world is in the throes of war. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) wants to do his part and join America’s armed forces, but the military rejects him because of his small stature. Finally, Steve gets his chance when he is accepted into an experimental program that turns him into a supersoldier called Captain America. Joining forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Captain America leads the fight against the Nazi-backed HYDRA organization.

Bucky: ‘Don’t do anything stupid til I get back’

Dr. Erskine: ‘What am I doing? You have a procedure tomorrow
Steve: Ok, tomorrow then?
Dr. Erskine: Tomorrow? I don’t have a procedure. I’ll drink it now.

Steve: B.A.R –
Phillips: I can spell

Morita: know how to use that thing?
** blows up side of building **
Morita: Ok

Stark: Write that down

Zola: What is it?
Phillips: Steak
Zola: What’s in it?
Phillips: Cow

*Peggy Kisses Steve*
Phillips: I’m not kissing you

So after watching I had a few questions. If you can answer any of them then feel free, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

How did the Tesseract end up on earth in the first place?

How did Odin not know it was missing?

How did Red Skull end up guarding the Soul Stone?

I wonder if Sebastian Stan knew he was going to be the Winter Solider/ returning to the MCU?

Avengers Book Tag

In true Kate fashion, I wasn’t tagged in this book tag but I’m having a go anyway. I saw this tag floating around the interwebs and here we are.

This one is a no brainer. Written by two very funny people, I genuinely could not stop laughing while I was reading ‘The Greatest Love Story Ever Told’ By Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman.

I feel like most middle grade books and series give a good message but I especially this series. We follow Sophie as she learns she is in fact an elf. ‘The Keeper of Lost Cities’ by Shannon Messenger really looks at self confidence and perseverance.

Celaena from the ‘Throne of Glass’ series by Sarah J. Maas is honestly one of the most resilient, bad ass characters I’ve ever read about. She keeps on getting up when shes knocked down and truly fights the battles that need to be fought.

hello, Spider-Gwen? she literally kicks ass!

Don’t get me wrong, I loved this book,it was probably the fastest I’ve read a Throne of Glass book but I was so angry as I was reading ‘Queen of Shadows’ By Sarah J. Maas, mostly because there were characters being the worst and doing the worst things and still surviving.

I haven’t really seen this one around BookTube much, but if you like a Fae book then you will definitely enjoy this one. in ‘A Kingdom of Exile’ By S.B. Nova the Fae are intense and there is a romance that I personally really enjoyed.

I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t super surprised with the way the story went however I definitely didn’t guess it. ‘In An Absent Dream’ by Seanan McGuire, was such a good read though!

Book Haul: May 2019

I planned for May to be a month where I purchase less books as a step in a more sustainable direction. These are books I purchased before making this decision. That being said I am not going to completely stop buying book. I am just going to me more strategic about the books that I am purchasing.

‘Beyond a Darkened Shore’ By Jessica Leake

The ancient land of Éirinn is mired in war. Ciara, Princess of Mide, has never known a time when Éirinn’s kingdoms were not battling for power, or Northmen were not plundering their shores.

The people of Mide have thankfully always been safe because of Ciara’s unearthly ability to control her enemies’ minds and actions. But lately, a mysterious crow has been appearing to Ciara, whispering warnings of an even darker threat. Although her clansmen dismiss her visions as pagan nonsense, Ciara fears this coming evil will destroy not just Éirinn, but the entire world.

Then the crow leads Ciara to Leif, a young Northman leader. Leif should be Ciara’s enemy, but when Ciara discovers that he, too, shares her prophetic visions, she knows he’s something more. Leif is mounting an impressive army, and with Ciara’s strength in battle the two might have a chance to save their world.

With evil rising around them, they’ll do what it takes to defend the land they love…even if it means making the greatest sacrifice of all.

‘The Life of Captain Marvel’ By Margaret Stohl, Carlos Pacheco & MargueriteSauvage

She’s one of the mightiest heroes not just on Earth, but in the entire galaxy! Now learn exactly how Carol Danvers became the woman she is – the Avenger she is – in the definitive origin of Captain Marvel! When sudden, crippling anxiety attacks sideline Carol in the middle of a fight, she finds herself reliving memories of a life she thought was far behind her. You can’t outrun where you’re from – and sometimes, you have to go home again. But while the Captain takes a temporary leave from duty to unravel her past, trouble comes looking for her. A weapon has been unleashed. And Carol’s sleepy coastal town is about to become the center of its world. But there are skeletons in Captain Marvel’s closet – and what she discovers will change her entire life!

‘Auror Rising’ By Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch…

A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm
A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering

And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.
